Which Enshrouded Skills Boost Which Weapons (1.0)

Verified for 1.04 min read

Each weapon type has its own skill, and they do not overlap. Barbarian's Path covers two-handed axes, clubs and hammers, not greatswords: those have Titan Edge. Piercing has two skills, Thrust for melee and Puncture for ranged. Wands and staves count as magic, not ranged, so ranged skills only reach bows and throwables.

A damage skill helps only the weapons whose type it names, and the names are easy to misread: "two-handed" skills skip greatswords, "ranged" skips staves. This page lays the skills, the weapon types and the damage types side by side, from the 1.0 game files.

The files give each skill an attribute and each weapon a type; where the two names match, the skill covers the weapon. The game code that applies the bonus is not in the files, so treat the match as the plain reading of the data and the skill's own text as the rule.

One weapon skill per weapon type

Every weapon type carries one attribute in the files, and exactly one skill reads it. Read the game's text first. Barbarian's Path: "Damage with Two-Handed Axes, Clubs and Hammers is increased by 5%." Titan Edge: "Damage with Two-Handed Greatswords is increased by 5%." So a greatsword build takes Titan Edge, and Barbarian's Path does nothing for it. The one-handed skill Warrior's Path is not the two-handed one either.

Wands and staves also share one skill

Mage Apprentice (Mage, 1 point a rank, 3 ranks): "Damage with Wands and Staves increased by 5%." That covers both on top of the single-type skills above.

Damage type skills

Separate from the weapon skills, 8 skills raise one damage type. For physical damage there is one per type and attack style: Slasher (Warrior) for melee cutting, Brute (Warrior) for melee blunt, [Thrust](/enshrouded/skill-tree/skill/thrust) (Ranger, 2 points a rank, 3 ranks) for melee piercing, and Puncture (Ranger) for ranged piercing. If you were looking for the melee piercing skill after 1.0, it is Thrust; Puncture is its ranged twin.

The elements are one skill each and read all three attack styles: Arsonist ("All Fire damage is increased by 10%."), Iceman ("All Ice damage is increased by 10%."), Thunder ("All Shock damage is increased by 10%."), Dark Arts ("All Shroud damage is increased by 10%.").

Which melee weapons deal piercing at all? Only a few. Of 329 melee weapons with a damage split, all 60 daggers carry piercing, and so do 3 one-handed axes: Provisional Scythe (100% piercing), Scavenger Miner Axe (100% piercing), Drak'Dal Chieftain Axe (50% piercing). No two-handed weapon has any piercing share in the files. Cutting is the main type of 185 melee weapons (swords, axes, greatswords) and blunt of 86 (clubs, hammers).

What counts as ranged, melee and magic

Each weapon also has an attack category. Bows (62) and throwables are Ranged. Wands (58) and staves (49) are Magic, not Ranged. 7 wands are both Magic and Melee, and every other weapon is Melee. In all, 67 weapons are Ranged and 107 are Magic.

So "ranged" skills such as Puncture and Sniper (critical chance "with bows") reach bows and throwables, not wands or staves. For those, the magic skills apply: Wizard for critical chance and Mage Apprentice for damage.

Bows, arrows and damage perks

A bow has no damage type of its own: none of the 62 bows stores a damage split. The arrow sets it. 3 arrows deal shock and 7 deal fire; the rest, and every other type, are in the arrow guide.

So when a bow shows shock damage, it comes from the Magic Shock Damage perk, not from the bow itself. In the files a damage perk adds a share of the weapon's base damage as that type (10% per perk slot), and nothing ties the share to a particular arrow. 61 of the 62 bows carry at least one damage perk, and the Magic Fire Damage perk works the same way. The arrow sets the main type; the perk adds its own share on top.

What the files do not settle

Heavy Hitter is worded for "all Two-Handed Melee weapons" ("Increases the attack speed of all Two-Handed Melee weapons by 10%."), but its node reads no attribute in the files, so the data cannot say whether greatswords count. If you see no speed change on a greatsword, the files cannot tell you whether that is intended.

Sting says "Repeated Wand damage is increased by 20%." The files do not define "repeated", so this page does not guess what triggers it.

Stacking is the third gap: the files do not say how Mage Apprentice adds to Wand Mastery on a wand, so add the percentages as the skill pages state them and check on a dummy.

Quick picks by weapon

Our reading, built on the table above. Warrior with a greatsword: Titan Edge then Slasher. Warrior with a two-handed hammer: Barbarian's Path then Brute. Dagger user: Dagger Mastery then Thrust. Archer: Marksman then Puncture. Wand user: Wand Mastery and Mage Apprentice plus the element your wands deal. Every skill and its text is on the skill tree. The weapons behind the counts are in the weapon database.
