Enshrouded Fast XP & Leveling (1.0)

Verified for 1.05 min read

The 1.0 files back two big XP pools: quests (49,825 XP) and completed item sets (48,925 XP). Do the story quests first, since the biggest pay 3,200 XP each, then finish sets such as the four boss trophy sets at 2,000 each. The files hold no XP per kill, so we cannot rank an XP farm, and the Experience Scroll has no recipe or normal drop in them.

You asked how to level fast. In 1.0 the honest ranking is by what pays a fixed amount, because the files do not hold XP per enemy. This page ranks the sources the files can back, gives the steps of each, and says what to leave alone. For where to fight by level see the progression order; for the cap and skill points see max level.

The XP the game needs per level is stored only for the first 5 levels (1,000 for the first entry, up to 5,092), so we do not turn these totals into levels.

Method 1: finish the story quests

Quests are the largest pool you can plan: 171 quests pay XP, 39,575 of it from main quests and 10,250 from side quests. Most pay little; a handful pay a lot.

  1. Start with the survivor rescues. 7 quests pay 800 XP each, and most of them rescue a crafter: Carpentry Assistance, Explore The Hollow Halls, Find the Sleeping Survivor, Growing Stronger Together, Hunter Becomes The Hunted, Powerful Alchemy, Ringing In The New Year. The order that opens crafting fastest is in quest order.
  2. Take the big ones as the Flame opens the regions. The table below lists the 6 quests that pay 1,000 XP or more. Their level is often "not set" in the files, so go by the region.
  3. Do side quests only on your way. Together they pay 10,250 XP in total, across many quests, so no single one is worth a detour.

Where the numbers come from

Each quest's XP is the sum of the experience value of its rewards in the 1.0 balancing table. A quest that appears twice under one title is counted once, at the larger award.

Method 2: complete item sets

The files pay one award when you have found every item of a set: 126 sets, 869 items, 48,925 XP in all, almost as much as every quest together. The biggest sets pay 2,200.

  1. Finish a set you are already close to. A set pays only when it is complete, so a set of four items you hold three of is worth more than a new one.
  2. The 4 boss trophy sets pay 2,000 XP each. Ancient S.P.D.R. Construct, Fell Dragon Youngling, Fell Wispwyvern, Vorgoth's Eye. Each is four trophies (plain, bronze, iron, gold); bosses are in the boss list.
  3. Check the journal for the rest. The table has the seven biggest sets; the files do not say where each item is, so we do not guess.

Method 3: fight where the XP factor is high

The files hold no XP per kill, so we cannot name a best enemy to farm. What they do hold is the world setting that scales combat XP: the Relaxed preset pays 1.5×, Default 1×, and Hard and Survival 0.5×. If you play solo and want to level fast, that setting moves more than any route.

One skill adds XP on top: Bounty Bonanza, a Ranger passive that costs 2 skill points and gives your group 5 extra XP after you defeat a Fell enemy with a skillshot (a hit on a weak point such as the head). It is small per kill, so it only matters for a Ranger who fights Fell enemies all the time. See the skill tree planner.

XP factors of the four world presets
PresetCombat XPMining XPExploration and quest XP
Relaxed1.5×1.25×1×
Default1×1×1×
Hard0.5×0.5×1×
Survival0.5×0.5×1×

Quest XP does not scale

In all four presets the exploration and quest factor is 1×, so the quest and exploration XP in Method 1 is the same on every difficulty. The server settings are in the dedicated server guide.

Method 4: mine and explore as you pass

The balancing table has 19 mining awards of 4 to 12 XP each: too small to farm, fine to pick up while you gather. It also has 106 exploration awards of 25 to 1,000 XP. The files do not say which discoveries pay them, so we cannot tell you where to go for them; opening the map as you travel is the safe habit.

What to avoid

Do not plan around the Experience Scroll. The item exists in the files, but it has no recipe, no listed amount and no normal drop in them, so we cannot tell you how to get one or how much XP it gives.

Do not chase an "XP spot". The files have no XP per enemy. A spot that works for a video may depend on enemy level and your group size, which we cannot check.

Do not drop the difficulty for XP and forget the cost. Hard and Survival halve combat and mining XP (0.5×); quest XP stays the same.

Do not level in a region far above you. Where to fight at each level is in the progression order.

What the files cannot tell you

They do not hold XP per enemy, the XP needed past the first 5 levels, the value of an Experience Scroll, or how many hours any route takes. Totals above are fixed awards only. If you know a source we missed, the max level page lists what the balancing table does hold.
