Enshrouded Magic Chest (1.0): Slots, Recipes, Range

A Magic Chest is the storage your crafting stations can take materials from. Enshrouded 1.0 has 5, from the Small Magic Chest (24 slots, Workbench) to the Enormous Magic Chest (72 slots, Cade Hawthorn (Carpenter)). A placed chest can be enchanted or upgraded where it stands. The working radius is not in the 1.0 files — the wiki's "approximately 100 meters" predates 1.0 and is unconfirmed.

Every number here comes from the Enshrouded 1.0 dedicated-server files: the slot count each chest's placed object is given, the crafting-stock part that only Magic Chests carry, and the recipes that make, upgrade and enchant them. Icons are the game's own where we have one; the others show our furniture symbol.

Every Magic Chest

The Small Magic Chest comes from the Workbench; the rest from the Cade Hawthorn (Carpenter). Each one except the Enormous Magic Chest is a plain chest of the same size plus a few materials; the Enormous Magic Chest is built from scratch and has no plain 72-slot twin.

Upgrade or enchant a placed chest

A placed chest can be made magic or bigger where it stands: the 1.0 files attach 4 enchant and 7 upgrade recipes to the placed chests themselves. A plain chest enchants into the Magic Chest of the same size, and both kinds upgrade one size up. The Wooden Chest and Silver Chest have neither.

Upgrade planner

Pick what you have placed and the Magic Chest you want: the planner walks the recipes above (fewest steps, then fewest items) and adds up the materials. With nothing placed, it crafts the chest new, including the plain chest a recipe consumes.

Magic Chest vs other chests

Slots are the same for a Magic Chest and the plain chest it is made from (24, 32, 40, 56 slots). What the Magic Chest adds is the crafting stock: of the 11 storage chests in the files, only the 5 Magic Chests carry it.

Range and the Flame Altar area

How far a Magic Chest reaches is not in the 1.0 server files: no part of the chests or the crafting stations holds a radius. The one distance the chests do carry, 32 m, is the same on every plain chest, so it is not the Magic Chest's range.

The Enshrouded Wiki's Storage page says: "Items stored inside can be directly used in Workshops in an circular area with a radius of approximately 100 meters". The same page adds: "Magic chest ranges have been reported to of changed, testing needed for new data." It was last edited on 2026-08-31, before 1.0, and no 1.0 source we found (checked 2026-10-21) gives a tested figure — so on this page the range is unconfirmed.

A Flame Altar's build zone is 40 m a side at first and 160 m at its largest (the Flame Altar planner has every level). Whether one Magic Chest serves stations across a whole zone depends on that unconfirmed range.
