Mutation Calculator

About 1 egg in 100 hatches a mutation, around 3% with an Extravagant Vegetable Cake. A mutated egg gives a species drawn from a band the game works out from both parents' breeding ranks — rarer than the normal child on nearly every pair, though not always rarer than the parents.

These odds match the community calculators, but those all run one formula and nobody has confirmed it against hatched eggs. Pooled player egg counts put the base rate nearer 0.6% than 1%.

Pick both parents to see what a mutated egg can hatch.

Special Combos — the 134 pairs that break the rule

Most pairs average the two parents' breeding power and round down. These 134 do not: they are fixed pairings that produce a Pal the averaging rule would never give you, and there is no way to work them out — they have to be looked up. 88 Pals can only be bred this way.

Passives & IVs — what the child inherits

The species is only half of a breed. Enter the passives each parent carries and tick the ones the child must have; the same table gives the odds for the IVs. The rules are the game's own, as read from its files by PalCalc.

Add the passives each parent carries. A Pal with none still counts — it just adds nothing to the pool.

The game merges both parents' passives into one list without duplicates, inherits 1–4 of them (40% / 30% / 20% / 10%), then rolls 0–3 new ones on top (40% / 30% / 20% / 10%), never past 4. Only inherited copies are counted here; a random roll landing on the same passive is not.

      IVs (talents)

The child inherits one, two or three of its IVs from the parents — 50%, 33% and 17% of the time, never none. Each inherited IV is a coin flip between the two parents; the rest roll 0–100 at random.

      IVDon't careEither parentOne parent only
      HP
      Attack
      Defense

Either parent: both parents carry a value you would keep, so inheriting from either one counts. One parent only: only one parent's value is good enough, which halves the odds for that IV.

Choose what the child's IVs must be.

Weights: the datamined breeding tables shipped by PalCalc (PassiveInheritanceWeights, PassiveRandomWeights, IVInheritanceWeights), model by u/mgxts. game8's sample of 107 eggs lands within a few points: about 30% per parent per IV, about 40% random, at least one IV always inherited.

Not sure what your parents' IVs are? Read them with the IV calculator.

      Passives worth breeding for

The rank 3 and higher passives that have a page of their own: the exact effect, who is born with each and how to get it. The planner builds the full route to one of them.

New in Palworld 1.0: Cakes, Mutations & Awakening

The 1.0 update reworked breeding. Cakes now do more than start an egg, every egg can roll a rare mutated Pal, and finished Pals can be pushed past their stat cap with Awakening.

      Breeding cakes

Four specialty cakes: higher talents, two eggs per batch, about 3% mutations, or inherited passives.

One Cake is still consumed per egg at the Breeding Farm. The four new specialty cakes change what that egg can roll:

      CakeEffect
CakeRequired to breed — one consumed per egg.
Mushroom CakeRaises the chance the offspring is born with higher talent stats. Flour ×5 · Mushroom ×5 · Cavern Mushroom ×3 · Egg ×8 · Honey ×2 (Tech 30).
Vegetable CakeProduces two eggs per breeding batch instead of one. Flour ×8 · Tomato ×8 · Lettuce ×7 · Egg ×8 · Honey ×4 (Tech 47).
Extravagant Vegetable CakeRaises the mutated-egg chance to about 3% and improves the talent roll — the pick for mutation farming. Flour ×12 · Cotton Candy ×8 · Potato ×10 · Onion ×6 · Carrot ×8 (Tech 60).
Special CakeMakes the child more likely to inherit several of its parents' passive skills. Flour ×20 · Caramel Cotton Candy ×8 · Milk ×15 · Egg ×15 · Mammorest Meat ×2 (Tech 74).

Base Cake recipe: Flour ×5 · Red Berries ×8 · Milk ×7 · Egg ×8 · Honey ×2 (Cooking Pot). How to make and farm Cake →

      Mutations

About 1 egg in 100 hatches a different species — the calculator above shows the band for your pair.

Roughly 1 egg in 100 hatches a mutation. A mutation is not a better version of the child you were expecting — it is a different species, drawn from a narrow band the game works out from both parents' breeding ranks. On nearly every pair it is rarer than the child that pair normally makes, but it is not always rarer than the parents themselves — the mutation calculator above shows the band for any pair you pick. Community reports say the mutant hatches as an Alpha with 90–100 IVs, two condensing stars, a strong attack for its element and 2–4 rainbow passives. An Extravagant Vegetable Cake raises the rate to about 3%.

      Awakening

Not part of the egg roll: Radiant Gems from the World Tree push a finished Pal past its stat cap.

Awakening is a post-breeding upgrade, not part of the egg roll. Element-typed Radiant Gems — gathered in the endgame World Tree — are spent to push a finished Pal past its normal stat cap. Breed and mutate the line first, then Awaken the keepers. Every gem source, the kill count per crystal, and the 66 Pals it upgrades twice →

Breeding combinations come from Palworld 1.0 game data. The mutation figures do not — they come from community calculators and from players pooling their own egg counts, and no source has confirmed them against the game files. Pooled counts put the base rate nearer 0.6% than the 1% those calculators state; the ~3% cake figure matches.

What is the strongest Pal you can breed?

Frostallion Noct. Ranked by the same base-stat score as our combat tier list, it is the strongest of the 264 Pals you can hatch from two other Pals: its only pair is Frostallion + Helzephyr. Panthalus scores higher, but every pair that makes it includes Panthalus itself, so you have to catch one first. The next 4 are in the table.

Combat score = HP + 1.5 × the higher of melee and shot attack + 1.2 × defence, from base stats — the formula behind our combat tier list. A Pal counts as breedable when at least one parent pair makes it without using the Pal itself; the pair shown is the one with the most common parents.

Palworld breeding guide: how breeding works
      1. Unique combos — 134 specific parent pairs always produce a fixed child (e.g., Relaxaurus + Sparkit → Relaxaurus Lux).
      2. Standard breeding — the child's breeding power equals ⌊(Parent A + Parent B + 1) ÷ 2⌋. The calculator finds the eligible Pal whose own breeding power is closest to that value.
      3. Parent eligibility — every catchable Pal with a breeding power can be a parent, including world bosses (Frostallion, Jetragon, Necromus, Paladius, Shadowbeak, Bellanoir, etc.). Astralym and Boltmane and Dragostrophe have none in the game data, so the calculator cannot use them.
      4. Non-eligible children (115) — the formula will never produce these species directly. Most are obtainable only via unique combos or capture (regional variants like Mossanda Lux, world bosses, Bellanoir, etc.). FAQ

How does breeding work in Palworld?
Two Pals placed in a Breeding Farm produce a Pal Egg. The child's species is determined by a fixed formula on the parents' breeding power — or by a unique combo override (e.g., Relaxaurus + Sparkit always produces Relaxaurus Lux). Hatching the egg gives you the new Pal.
How does Pindrop's breeding calculator find the shortest path?
Pick a target child and the calculator searches every parent pair eligible to produce it, ranked by total breeding generations needed. Unique combos take priority since they're one-step. 134 unique parent-child combinations are baked in.
Does the calculator include passive skills (traits)?
Yes — the Passives & IVs section on this page. The rules: the game merges both parents' passives into one list without duplicates, the child inherits 1–4 of them (40% / 30% / 20% / 10%), then 0–3 completely new ones are rolled on top (40% / 30% / 20% / 10%), up to four in total. So a passive neither parent has can still appear, and a wanted passive is likelier the fewer passives the pair carries between them. Weights are the datamined tables PalCalc ships, model reverse-engineered from the game code by u/mgxts.
Why are some children labeled "non-eligible"?
115 species can't be produced through standard breeding — they're obtainable only via unique combos, capture, or events. Examples include regional variants like Mossanda Lux, world bosses like Bellanoir, and the Frostallion / Jetragon / Necromus / Paladius / Shadowbeak roster.
Where do the breeding combos come from?
Breeding power values and the unique-combo overrides come from PalCalc, an MIT-licensed dataset generated directly from Palworld's 1.0 game files. The formula is documented on palworld.wiki.gg — we link the reference at the bottom of this page.
How do mutations work in Palworld 1.0 breeding?
About 1 egg in 100 mutates — pooled player egg counts put it nearer 0.6%. A mutated egg does not hatch a stronger version of the child the pair would normally give you: it hatches a different species, picked from a narrow band the game works out from both parents' breeding ranks. That species is rarer than the normal child on nearly every pair, though not always rarer than the parents. Community reports say it comes out as an Alpha with 90–100 IVs, two condensing stars and 2–4 rainbow passives; nobody has confirmed that against hatched eggs. An Extravagant Vegetable Cake raises the rate to about 3%.
What do the new breeding cakes do in Palworld 1.0?
A base Cake is still required for every egg. Mushroom Cake improves the offspring's talent roll, Vegetable Cake produces two eggs per batch, Extravagant Vegetable Cake adds talent points and raises the mutated-egg chance to about 3%, and Special Cake makes the child more likely to inherit several parent passives.
