Every Pal carries a unique Partner Skill — a combat buff, mount transform, crafting boost, or shield. 93 are Active (Technology-gated, fire via the Partner Skill key) and 75 are Passive (trigger automatically in the field or at the base). Lv.1-Lv.5 progression is on each Pal's detail page.

How to activate Partner Skills

  1. Add the Pal to your party. Only Pals in the 5-slot active party can fire their Partner Skill. Swap from the Pal Box.
  2. Summon the Pal. Throw its sphere with the summon key to call it out in the field. Some Partner Skills also trigger while the Pal is assigned to the base.
  3. Press the Partner Skill key. F on PC, LB on Xbox. Active skills with a Technology unlock requirement remain greyed out until you research that Technology.

How to level up Partner Skills (Lv.1 → Lv.5)

Partner Skill rank is raised by Condensing at the Pal Essence Condenser. Each tier costs more duplicates of the same species, and each rank simultaneously boosts base stats and Partner Skill effect strength (and shortens cooldown for active skills).

RankDuplicates neededWhat changes
Lv.1Base — the Pal you caught
Lv.2+4Stats + Partner Skill scale up
Lv.3+8Larger jump in effect strength
Lv.4+16Cooldown drops noticeably (active)
Lv.5+32 (total)Maxed — peak effect, lowest cooldown

Exact Lv.1-Lv.5 numbers vary per Pal — see any Pal's detail page for the precise progression (e.g. Anubis +5% → +10% Ground, Smokie 3s → 2s cooldown).

Frequently asked questions

What are Partner Skills in Palworld?

Every Pal has one unique Partner Skill — an ability triggered while the Pal is following the player (Active) or simply assigned to the team or base (Passive). Effects range from combat damage buffs and elemental empowerment to crafting bonuses, mount transformations, and item-finding boosts.

How do I activate a Pal's Partner Skill?

Add the Pal to your active 5-slot party in the Pal Box, summon it in the field, then press the Partner Skill key (F on PC, LB on Xbox). Active skills with a Technology unlock requirement remain greyed out until that Technology is researched in the tech tree.

How do I level up a Partner Skill?

Use the Pal Essence Condenser — feed 4 duplicates of the same species to raise the original to Lv.2, 16 duplicates to reach Lv.5. Each tier increases both base stats and the Partner Skill's effect strength. The exact per-rank values for any species are on its detail page on Pindrop.

What's the difference between Active and Passive Partner Skills?

Active Partner Skills require a Technology unlock (e.g. Foxparks' Huggy Fire flamethrower at Tech 6) and fire on-demand via the Partner Skill key. Passive Partner Skills trigger automatically while the Pal is in your party or assigned to the base — examples: Lifmunk laying down covering fire, Cattiva increasing your carry weight.

Can Partner Skills stack across multiple Pals?

Most stat buffs (Attack +%, Defense +%) from passive Partner Skills stack additively if multiple party Pals carry the same family — for instance, multiple Pals with element-attack buffs all apply. Some single-target shields and mount transforms don't stack visually because they replace the same slot.

Where do Partner Skill ranks Lv.1 → Lv.5 show up?

On Pindrop, every Pal detail page (/palworld/pal/[species]) lists the full Lv.1-Lv.5 progression including cooldown reduction for active skills like Smokie's Dig, Dog! Dig! (3s → 2s) and effect-scaling for passive skills like Anubis's Guardian of the Desert (+5% → +10% Ground attack).
