Palworld Type Chart & Element Counters
Every Pal carries 1-2 of these 9 elements, and type matchups decide how fast a boss tower or alpha goes down. Use the counter table below to pick the right Pal for any fight, or jump straight to a per-element page for the full Pal roster.
How element damage works in Palworld
Each attack in Palworld carries an element from the Pal's active-skill set. When the attacker's element is super-effective against the defender's element, damage is multiplied by ×1.5. When the defender resists the attacker's element, damage is reduced by ×0.5. Neutral matchups deal regular ×1 damage.
- ×1.5 super-effective
- ×1.0 neutral
- ×0.5 resisted
- ×0 Dark vs Neutral (Neutral immune)
Dual-element Pals carry both types but each skill is single-element — bring a Frostallion (Ice + Dragon) to a Dragon fight and its Ice moves hit ×1.5 while its Dragon moves land neutral. Pick the right skill, not just the right Pal.

Frequently asked questions
How does element damage work in Palworld?▾
Each attack carries its skill's element. When that element is super-effective against the target, damage is multiplied by ×1.5 (the boss tower / alpha will fold in roughly half the swings). When the target resists the attack's element, damage is multiplied by ×0.5. Neutral matchups deal ×1 damage. Dark is the only attack type that bypasses Neutral's defense entirely.
Which element counters Fire in Palworld?▾
Water — it's the only element that's super-effective against Fire. Top Water Pals to bring to a Fire fight include Jormuntide, Azurobe, and the Frostallion line (Frostallion has Ice typing but its kit overlaps with anti-Fire content). For boss-tower content, Jormuntide's high HP + Water moveset make it the standard pick.
What's strong against Dragon-type Pals?▾
Ice is the only element that's super-effective against Dragon. Frostallion is the top-tier counter and has the unique Partner Skill 'Aurora Glacies' that adds Ice damage to player attacks; Cryolinx and Sibelyx also work for non-Frostallion runs. Avoid Dark attacks against Dragon: Dragon resists them.
Why does Dark deal extra damage to Neutral Pals?▾
Dark is the only element with a one-way advantage over Neutral: Dark attacks deal ×1.5 against Neutral, but Neutral attacks deal regular damage back. This makes Neutral Pals risky to bring to Dark fights — switch to a Dark-resistant Dragon Pal or build a Dark-element team yourself to counter.
Can a dual-element Pal stack super-effective bonuses against the same target?▾
No. Damage is computed per attack, so a single skill carries one element. A dual-element Pal can switch between two move types in its skill bar — bring an Ice + Dragon Pal (e.g., Frostallion) to a Dragon boss and it will land Ice ×1.5 on Ice skills, while its Dragon moves land neutral against the boss. Pick the right skill for the matchup.
Which element has the most Pals in Palworld?▾
Neutral is the largest pool (typically used by mid-game capture targets and early bosses). Every elemental type has at least 6 Pals; the dual-typed roster (Cryst / Noct / Lux / Ignis / Terra / Botan variants) adds another 30+ Pals to the chart.
