Nightstar Sand appears only at night, and most of it is not where the item text points. The game calls it sand found in the desert at night, yet 222 of the 271 sites we map are on Feybreak and 49 in Twilight Dunes. Pick the cluster nearest you and arrive after dark — a site that looks empty by day is not.
If you would rather not wait for night, Starryon Primo and Wistella each drop 1-2 on every kill at a 100% rate. Mobility gear is the big consumer: the jump boots, air-dash boots and Air Walkers take 20 to 60 per craft, and the Beam Sword, Advanced Bow and Metal Detector take 20 each.
