Two players, two trees. The tank draws the enemy and lowers the damage around it; the healer stands inside that circle and heals everyone in reach. Open each tree in the planner with its gear, then read how the two of you play it.

How the two of you play it

  1. Split the jobs before anyone spends a point

One of you takes the tank, one the healer. The tank carries a one-handed weapon and a shield and spends nearly all of its points in the Warrior area. The healer carries a magic weapon and spends in the Mage area: Spirit pips for mana, Intelligence pips because Water Aura and Life Burst scale with Intelligence.

The healer needs a magic weapon in hand for the kill heal (Life Burst), so a staff or wand, not a sword.

  2. Tank: draw the attention, then lower the damage around you

Nemesis is the co-op node. The 1.0 files read: whenever an ally draws the attention of an enemy, you draw it in equal measures. It means the enemy that turns on your healer also turns on you.

Earth Aura is the second: an aura that reduces all incoming damage by 10% for you and allies within 10 meters, as the 1.0 files word it. The healer's heal reaches 15 meters, so the healer can stand inside your 10 meters and get both.

Warden and Tower pay off once three or more enemies are within 20 meters: less magical damage with Warden, less physical damage with Tower. Heavy Plates and Shiny Plates raise what your armor stops, and Vigorous Deflection returns stamina when you parry.

  3. Healer: Water Aura is the heal, and everything else makes it bigger

Water Aura is an aura that heals all injured allies within 15 meters, scaling with your Intelligence: one health for every two points. Waters Of Life raises that to two health per two points, so the tree takes both.

Healer raises the health gained from healing spells. Divine Surge lets healing spells land critical strikes. Righteous Fire turns a heal into a burst of fire against nearby Fell enemies, so the healer deals damage by healing. Life Essences adds maximum health from Intelligence.

The 1.0 files do not say whether Water Aura also heals its caster; the pre-1.0 wiki said it did. Treat self-healing as unconfirmed; Life Essences is the healer's own health.

  4. When something kills an enemy, the healer heals the group

Life Burst: when you kill an enemy with a magic weapon, all players within 15 meters of the target gain health equal to 3 times your Intelligence. It needs a staff or wand kill, so the healer takes the killing blow when it can while the tank holds the enemy.

The tank has its own sustain: Battle Heal heals 5% of maximum health on a critical melee hit, as the 1.0 files word it.

  5. When one of you goes down

Saviour cuts the time to revive an ally from 6 seconds to 3, and Healing Revive makes the revived player come up with 25% of their health instead of 10%. Both are in the healer's tree. If the tank goes down, the healer is the one who gets it back on its feet fast.

If the healer goes down, the tank has no revive skill in this tree, only the base 6 seconds. Get the enemies off the healer first, then revive.

  6. Gear: match the perks to the tree

The healer's loadout below uses the Beastmaster Shaman Staff, whose five perk slots in the 1.0 files include Healer twice and Mana Currents, both nodes this tree owns. The healer armor sets (Healer Set and up) carry Healer, Water Aura, Healing Revive and Righteous Fire perks in the same files. Those perks are named after skills this tree owns, such as +1 Healer and +1 Water Aura.

The tank's loadout is the Sword and Board Tank's: a shield, and rings whose perks name Battle Heal and Heavy Plates.

FAQ

Can I run the healer tree alone?
You can, but little in it deals damage. Righteous Fire adds fire damage to Fell enemies when you heal, and Life Burst heals when you kill, but it is a support tree. The Healer Support page has the tree on its own.
Does the tank need the healer to be in melee range?
No. Earth Aura covers 10 meters and Water Aura 15 meters in the 1.0 files, so the healer can stand a few steps behind the tank and still be inside both.
Which of us spends points first?
Both trees fit the level-up points of level 30 with room to spare: the healer spends 44 points and is complete by level 23, the tank spends 50 and is complete by level 26. After that every point you earn is free to spend.
