How element damage works in Palworld

Each attack in Palworld carries an element from the Pal's active-skill set. When the attacker's element is super-effective against the defender's element, damage is multiplied by ×2. When the defender resists the attacker's element, damage is reduced by ×0.5. Neutral matchups deal regular ×1 damage.

  • ×2 super-effective
  • ×1.0 neutral
  • ×0.5 resisted

Dual-element Pals carry both types but each skill is single-element — bring a Dragon Pal that also carries Ice skills to a Dragon fight and its Ice moves hit ×2 while its Dragon moves land neutral. Pick the right skill, not just the right Pal.

Best counter Pal for each element

For every element you might face on a boss tower or alpha, here's the counter type and the top 3 highest-combat Pals within that type. Combat score is HP + the higher attack (melee or shot) × 1.5 + defence × 1.2.

Frequently asked questions

How does element damage work in Palworld?
Each attack carries its skill's element. When that element is strong against the target's, damage is multiplied by ×2. When the target's element resists it, damage is multiplied by ×0.5. Neutral matchups deal ×1 damage. If a skill is strong against one of a dual-element target's elements and weak against the other, the two cancel and damage stays ×1.
Which element counters Fire in Palworld?
Water — it's the only element that's strong against Fire. The highest-scoring Water Pals on the counter table above are Panthalus, Shaolong and Jormuntide.
What's strong against Dragon-type Pals?
Ice is the only element strong against Dragon. The top Ice Pals on the counter table are Frostallion, Bastigor and Cryolinx. Frostallion's partner skill is Icy Steed: Can be ridden as a flying mount. While mounted, changes the player's attack type to Ice, increases Attack by (10~40)%, and apply Freeze buildup by (2~6). Dragon is strong against Dark, so Dark attacks do ×0.5 to a Dragon Pal.
Why does Dark deal extra damage to Neutral Pals?
Dark is the only element that is strong against Neutral: Dark attacks deal ×2 to a Neutral Pal, while Neutral attacks have no advantage over anything. That makes Neutral Pals risky to bring to Dark fights; Dragon is the element that is strong against Dark.
Can a dual-element Pal stack super-effective bonuses against the same target?
No. Damage is computed per attack, and a single skill carries one element. A dual-element Pal can use skills of both its elements, so bring one whose second element is strong against the boss and use that element's skills; its other skills stay at their own matchup.
Which element has the most Pals in Palworld?
Dark is the largest pool at 73 Pals. The smallest is Dragon with 25. 87 Pals carry two elements and are counted in both. Use the per-element pages below to browse the full Pal roster for any one element.
