Land Claim Block in 7 Days to Die

ByYurii LuzhkoSource: 7 Days to Die V3.3 game files
Base protectionBackpack recipe41 × 41 by default

“A placed land claim block will protect an area from other players in PVP and prevent zombie respawns. The placement box shows the size of the area. Up to three land claims can be placed.”

The Land Claim Block costs 5 Small Stone from the backpack. Placed, it claims a 41 × 41 area from sky to bedrock (server default): blocks inside are ×4 harder for non-allied players to damage, online or offline, zombies don't respawn there, and you can pick up your workstations and electrical parts inside it. A default server allows 5 per player; a claim lapses after its owner has been offline 7 real days.

Dead zone: a new claim's edge can't be placed within 30 blocks of an enemy player's claim (the game's option text).

How many land claims you can place

The game ships two answers. serverconfig.xml sets LandClaimCount to 5 ("Maximum allowed land claims per player"), and the land-claim challenge says up to 5 per player. The block's description and the journal tip still say three. Servers set their own value.

A land claim grants a hardness modifier to all blocks in your claim area.

This hardness modifier applies to any attacks or damage to blocks by enemy players.

You can pick up and move electrical components and workstations inside your claim. Electrical Items outside of your claim can be cut and wired by strangers.

When placing a claim block you will see a colored placement preview. Colors are as follows: Green inside your claim, Yellow inside your friends claim, White everywhere else, Red you cannot place the block.

You can have three active land claim blocks at a time. Placing another will deactivate your first block.

Enemies will not respawn within your claimed area.

In-game journal tip — Land claim

What a claim protects — and what it doesn't

  • Against players

Blocks in the claim are ×4 harder for non-allied players to damage while you're online, ×4 while you're offline (defaults). Party members must be allied with the claim's owner (challenge text).

  • Against zombies

No respawns inside the claim. Your blocks are not hardened against zombies — the modifier is for damage by enemy players.

  • Your gear

Inside your claim you can pick up workstations and electrical components; outside it, strangers can cut and rewire electrical items (journal tip).

  • World resets

If a server sets MaxChunkAge (shipped as -1), unvisited chunks reset after that many in-game days — unless a land claim or bedroll protects them.

  • Trader quests

There is a landclaim placed inside the POI you are wanting to quest in. Please come back later.

  • The Great Heist

A The Great Heist book: "Do 20% more damage to land claimed property."

Land Claim Blocks (LCBs) apply a Hardness Modifier to Blocks inside the Claimed Area, protecting from Damage by non-allied Players. Party Members must be allied with the LCB owner, with up to 5 LCBs per Player. Placing Blocks inside the Claimed Area will indicate:

Green for Owner, Yellow for Allies, White for no claim, and Red for restricted placement.

LCBs will also prevent Sleeper and Biome respawns, but allow Blood Moon or Screamer spawns. Pressing [action:permanent:Activate][action:local:Activate] on the LCB toggles the Claim Area bounds. To remove an LCB, aim and hold [action:permanent:Activate][action:local:Activate], then select Remove from the Radial Menu.

Land Claim Block — FAQ

How big is a land claim in 7 Days to Die?
41 × 41 blocks by default (LandClaimSize 41 in serverconfig.xml), and the claim runs from sky to bedrock. Server owners can change the size; the game's own option text: "a land claim size of 7 would protect a 7x7 square area from sky to bedrock."
How many land claim blocks can you have?
5 per player by default (LandClaimCount in serverconfig.xml), and the land-claim challenge text also says up to 5. The block's own description still says "up to three" and the journal tip says placing one more than allowed deactivates your first. Servers set their own limit.
How do you craft a land claim block?
From the backpack, no workbench: 5 Small Stone, 5 seconds. There is no skill to unlock first.
Does a land claim block stop zombies?
It stops zombies respawning inside the claim — "Enemies will not respawn within your claimed area" (journal tip). The hardness bonus is described as applying to damage by enemy players, not zombies.
