To farm in 7 Days to Die, craft a Farm Plot in your backpack (4 Wood, 10 Rotting Flesh, 25 Nitrate Powder and 100 Clay Soil), plant a seed on it and harvest after 2 growth stages of 63 minutes each. Crops need fertile level 15: a Farm Plot has 16, plain dirt 5, so they will not grow in the ground around it.

Seeds unlock on the Seeds crafting skill (Southern Farming magazines) between levels 2 and 20.

How to farm in 7 Days to Die

  1. Craft a Farm Plot: Backpack (no station) — 4 Wood + 10 Rotting Flesh + 25 Nitrate Powder + 100 Clay Soil (20 s). The recipe is known from the start. Living off the Land rank 1: Farm plots cost 30% less to craft. Living off the Land rank 2: Farm plots cost 50% less to craft.
  2. Place it where you want the crop. It can be dug up and moved; its shape menu offers a raised and a round-corner variant.
  3. Get seeds: craft them once the Seeds skill unlocks them. Read Southern Farming magazines to raise the skill.
  4. Plant the seed on the plot and wait 2 growth stages of 63 minutes each. Mushrooms: the file sets fertile level 0 and light level 0, so they grow off the plot and in the dark.
  5. Harvest by hand or with a tool. A grown crop gives 2; Living off the Land multiplies that (below), and there is a 50% chance to get the seed back.

Living off the Land perk

Specialize in harvesting more crops using your hands or a tool. Boost loot odds of Southern Farming magazines.

  • Rank 1 · Gatherer — Double the harvest of wild or planted crops. Farm plots cost 30% less to craft.
  • Rank 2 · Forager — 50% chance to harvest 1 additional crop. Farm plots cost 50% less to craft.
  • Rank 3 · Farmer — Triple the harvest of wild or planted crops.

Bees and honey: the Apiary

The Apiary turns flowers into honey: 10 Chrysanthemum, Goldenrod Flower or Cotton make one Jar of Honey every 48 game hours. Grow the flowers yourself — Cotton (Seed), Chrysanthemum (Seed) and Goldenrod (Seed) are all on the crop list above.

The recipe needs 5 Beeswax. The game's loot tables put Beeswax in the plague loot bag that Rancher zombies drop. Honey also comes from trees: after reading Wasteland Treasures Vol 1, each tree harvest has a 5% chance to drop a jar.

“Slowly produces honey over time. Can be fueled with 10 Chrysanthemum, 10 Goldenrod, or 10 Cotton. Without a Smoker tool mod, closing the hive may have a chance to provoke an angry swarm. Works best outdoors or with 6 air blocks above them. Repair with Forged Iron.”

Build it

Workbench — 5 Beeswax + 100 Wood + 50 Nails + 10 Forged Iron + 8 Duct Tape

Unlocks at Workstations crafting skill 30 (Forge Ahead magazines).

Chickens and eggs: the Chicken Coop

Catch a wild chicken by hand and put it in a Chicken Coop; it becomes a domesticated chicken. Fuel the coop with Chicken Feed — 10 from 1 Ear of Corn + 1 Rotting Flesh in your backpack, or bought from traders.

Eggs and feathers need 1 chicken; a new chicken needs 2 and 30 feed over 72 game hours. The game says breeding needs the Nesting Box.

Carrying a chicken stresses it. The world setting for what happens at 100% stress reads: “Enable an event when held chickens reach 100% stress. "None" disables events, while "Random" selects one of the events below at random. Drop Chicken = Your chicken escapes your grasp. Angry Chicken = Your chicken turns against you. Zombie Horde = Your chicken's stress summons a zombie horde. Murder Chickens = Angry chickens unite against you.”

“Slowly makes Eggs, Feathers, and Chickens when the Nesting Box is installed. Catch Chickens and place them in the slots. Fuel with Chicken Feed. Works best outdoors or with 6 air blocks above them. Repair with Forged Iron.”

Build it

Backpack (no station) — 200 Scrap Polymers + 100 Wood + 50 Nails + 10 Forged Iron + 8 Duct Tape
