Is The Forest cross-platform?
No crossplay: PC and PlayStation players can't join each other. The Forest is on PC (Steam) and on PS4, which also plays on PS5. It is not on Xbox as far as the official listings show. That is our reading of the store pages plus the game files.

Who can play The Forest with whom
Every platform pair, and what each one can actually do right now. “Not confirmed” means the studio has not said — it is not a soft yes.
- PC + PCWorks
Online co-op through Steam: 8 players in a game you host. A dedicated server defaults to 8 and its config accepts up to 100; we did not test that.
- PC + PlayStationNo
No crossplay, by our reading: neither the Steam page nor the PlayStation listing mentions cross-platform play, and the PC game's co-op runs through Steam.
- PC + XboxNo
Not on Xbox as far as the official listings show, so there is nothing to pair.
- PlayStation + PlayStationWorks
Up to 4 online players with PS Plus, which is required for online play. PS4 and PS5 players use the same PS4 version.
- PlayStation + XboxNo
Not on Xbox as far as the official listings show, so there is nothing to pair.

Why PC and PlayStation players can't join each other
Neither the Steam page (store.steampowered.com, app 242760) nor the PlayStation Store listing mentions cross-platform play. The Steam page lists Online Co-op, LAN Co-op and VR Supported, and no cross-platform category. The PC game's multiplayer is built on Steam: its game code has CoopSteamManager and CoopSteamNGUI classes and ships SteamworksManaged.dll, and the dedicated server is a Steam server. A PlayStation player has no way into a Steam session. This is our reading of the store pages and the game files, not a statement from Endnight Games.
The Forest on PS4, PS5 and Xbox
The PS4 version released on November 6, 2018 (the US PlayStation Store date), published by Endnight Games Limited. Endnight's Anna Terekhova wrote on the PlayStation Blog on August 29, 2018 about playing with up to three other friends, which makes four in total. The PlayStation Store lists no native PS5 version: the PS4 version plays on PS5, the store says the system may need the latest system software, and that some PS4 features may be absent. Endnight's site lists The Forest only with a Steam link, and we found no Microsoft Store or Xbox listing when we searched on October 25, 2026, so it is not on Xbox as far as the official listings show.
The Forest co-op: how many players?
On PC, a game you host from the menu holds 2 to 8 players (the game code clamps the host lobby between 2 and 8). A dedicated server's config defaults to 8 players and accepts 2 to 100; we did not test large servers and do not say 100 works well. These caps are read from the game files of the 2019 dedicated server build. On PS4, the store lists up to 4 online players with PS Plus. VR is PC only, per Steam.
