Subnautica: Below Zero Creatures
31 creatures the game files spawn or place, each with a page: the depth it lives at, the areas where it spawns and the pins on the map. Sort the table, or open the leviathans page for the big ones.
Data: Subnautica: Below Zero game files (build of 12 Aug 2025), read and drawn by PinDrop. (c) Unknown Worlds Entertainment. PinDrop is fan-made and not affiliated with Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
Spawn numbers are a model read from the game's spawner tables and 921,892 baked slots, not verified in a running game.
Leviathans
The databank class “Leviathans” holds 3 creatures the files place (Glow Whale, Chelicerate, Shadow Leviathan), the Frozen Leviathan, and the Ice Worm. Their positions are on one page with a map.
Databank creatures without a page
38 fauna entries sit in the game's databank; 31 of them have a page. The rest have no spawn entry and no placed position in the files, so a page would hold only the databank name:
- Hope: no spawn entry and no placed position in the game files
- Bladderfish: no spawn entry and no placed position in the game files
- Crashfish: no spawn entry and no placed position in the game files
- Hivemind: no spawn entry and no placed position in the game files
- Ice Worm: databank entry only, no position in the files (shown on the leviathans page)
- Trivalve Gold: only 6 placed eggs, no creature spawn or placement
- Trivalve Blue: only 6 placed eggs, no creature spawn or placement
- Spikey Trap: a trap plant in the databank, no spawn entry
- Alien Robot: a robot, 7 placed; it is on the map as a notable creature, not in the fauna classes
How the creatures are found in the files
The game files hold two kinds of creatures. 27 species are rolled for each new game: 921,892 baked slots each pick from a per-area table of 34 creature spawn types (school and small-variant prefabs fold into the same species), so the same save never has the same fish in the same place twice. 9 species are placed by hand, 582 pins in total, and those are exact positions. 5 species do both.
The classes are the game's own: Leviathans, Carnivores, Large and Small herbivores, Scavengers and parasites. The files hold where and when a creature appears, not how it fights, so the only behaviour lines on these pages are the studio's own databank text, quoted and marked. Pages for the areas are in biomes, plants in flora.
Spawn counts are a model, not verified in a running game; pins are read as placed. Names, classes and quoted lines are the game's own text.
