Lithium, Magnetite and Diamonds by Depth in Below Zero
Lithium reaches shallowest (its top tenth is 38 m deep) and Magnetite sits deepest, with the middle of its band at 610 m. None of the three has a fixed lithium or magnetite spot, and diamonds have 8 drill-only outcrops.
- Diamond381 mmiddle of the depth band; 8 fixed pins
- Lithium388 mmiddle of the depth band; no fixed pins
- Magnetite610 mmiddle of the depth band; no fixed pins
These are the three ores people search for most. I read the depth band and the areas from the spawn model and the pins from the map; the page does not rate any gear, because the files do not.

Which one first: by depth
The table orders them from the shallowest middle of the band to the deepest. The depths are the model's, taken from the spawn slots that can hold each ore.
Lithium
The model puts most lithium spawns from 38 to 659 m deep (the shallowest tenth at 38 m, the middle at 388 m, the deepest tenth at 659 m), about 643 per new game. The files place no fixed spot, so every one is rolled when a game starts and no map can give an exact position. The shallowest of its five main areas is Arctic Spires, where the middle of the area's spawn slots is 46 m above sea level.
You need it for Plasteel ingot, Ultra high capacity tank, Prawn suit drill arm, Power cell charger and 12 more recipes. The full page: where to find lithium.
| Area | Expected per game | Share of the area's slots | Middle depth of the area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crystal Caverns | 225 | 4.5% | 644 m below |
| Purple Vents | 169 | 5.6% | 72 m below |
| Tree Spires | 108 | 1.7% | 244 m below |
| Thermal Spires | 66 | 6.5% | 65 m below |
| Arctic Spires | 32 | 9.2% | 46 m above |
Magnetite
The model puts most magnetite spawns from 381 to 715 m deep (the shallowest tenth at 381 m, the middle at 610 m, the deepest tenth at 715 m), about 239 per new game. The files place no fixed spot, so every one is rolled when a game starts and no map can give an exact position. The shallowest of its five main areas is Glacial Basin, where the middle of the area's spawn slots is 5 m above sea level.
You need it for Snowfox, Thermal plant, Thumper, Scanner room HUD chip and 4 more recipes. The full page: where to find magnetite.
| Area | Expected per game | Share of the area's slots | Middle depth of the area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crystal Caverns | 132 | 11% | 644 m below |
| Lily Pads | 89 | 5.6% | 197 m below |
| Glacial Basin | 18 | 1.9% | 5 m above |
Diamond
The model puts most diamond spawns from 269 to 647 m deep (the shallowest tenth at 269 m, the middle at 381 m, the deepest tenth at 647 m), about 266 per new game. The files place 8 fixed spots (mined with the prawn suit drill arm). The shallowest of its five main areas is Twisty Bridges, where the middle of the area's spawn slots is 68 m below sea level. The 8 fixed outcrops are drill-only, and the Prawn Suit drill arm itself costs 4 Diamonds, so the first ones come from loose spawns.
You need it for Laser cutter, Modification station, Reinforced dive suit, Prawn suit drill arm and 3 more recipes. The full page: where to find diamond.
| Area | Expected per game | Share of the area's slots | Middle depth of the area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Twisty Bridges | 78 | 2.8% | 68 m below |
| Tree Spires | 55 | 5.8% | 244 m below |
| Crystal Caverns | 44 | 4.1% | 644 m below |
| Koppa Mining Site | 32 | 38% | 263 m below |
| Lily Pads | 32 | 0.6% | 197 m below |
Common mistakes
- Looking for a lithium or magnetite pin. The map has none; use the chance map.
- Sending the Prawn Suit for loose diamonds. The drill is for the 8 placed outcrops.
- Reading the haze as a location. It shows where a spawn is likelier in the model, not where one is in your save.
About these numbers
Every number here is read from the game files of the Steam build of 12 Aug 2025. Fixed pins and recipes are exact. Spawn chances come from a model of the game's spawner tables and have not been checked in a running game. Anything the files do not hold is marked on the page.
The files give no depth rating for any tank, suit or vehicle, so this page says how deep an ore is and not which gear survives there. The fixed pins are exact: Lithium 0, Magnetite 0, Diamond 8.
