How to Make and Ride a Zipline in Sons of the Forest
You need the Rope Gun and one Zipline Rope (1 printed grappling hook and 1 rope). Equip the gun, shoot the first anchor at your start, shoot the second where you want to land, then ride the line.

The 6 steps at a glance
Steps 1 and 2 are the kit. Steps 3 and 4 are the line. Steps 5 and 6 are the ready-made lines and what to plan.
- Get the Rope Gun. It lies in the Rope Gun Cave.
- Get Zipline Rope. Craft it or find it.
- Fire the two anchors. Start, then landing.
- Ride and take the line back. Right-click the second grapple.
- Use the ready-made ziplines. 2 of them in the caves.
- Plan the line. What the files do and do not say.
Step 1: Get the Rope Gun
The Rope Gun is a key item: it lies in the Rope Gun Cave, near the exit of the left tunnel. With the rebreather it also opens the way to the shovel. Our Rope Gun page has the steps and the map pin; the cave has two entrances on the map.

Tap a dot to see which place it is. Open a layer on the full map: Rope gun, Rope Gun Cave entrances, 3D printers
- Go to one of the Rope Gun Cave entrances on the map below.
- Follow the left tunnel toward the exit.
- Pick up the gun. GameRant mentions a ready-made zipline in a cave (Step 5).
Step 2: Get Zipline Rope
The rope is the gun's ammo (Zipline Rope). Our crafting data lists it as 1 printed grappling hook and 1 rope, made from the inventory, and notes it is also found in supply crates. In the loot tables the supply crates carry it at 6.8% of each roll, and each crate rolls 2 to 3 items.
- Look in supply crates. The loot data has 173 supply-crate spawn points on the island, plus more in caves and bunkers.
- Players also find rope near abandoned campsites and cannibal camps and in random containers (GameRant).
- For the hook: grappling hooks lie around, and you can print one at a 3D printer (GameRant). Our map marks 5 printers.
- Craft the Zipline Rope from the inventory: 1 printed grappling hook and 1 rope.
Not in the files
The resin cost of a printed hook and the weight of loose rope at camps are not in the data we hold, so we give no numbers.
Step 3: Fire the two anchors
Follow the order players describe (GameRant). The Zipline structure itself costs 1 Zipline Rope in the client's recipe list.
- Craft or pick up a Zipline Rope.
- Equip the Rope Gun.
- Shoot the first grapple point where you want to start.
- Shoot the line at the ground where you want the end. That makes the zipline.
Step 4: Ride it, and take the line back
Ride your line the way you ride a ready-made one (Step 5). To get the rope back, look at the second grapple and right-click: the rope returns to the gun for reuse (GameRant). Players say you can then fire it again somewhere else.
- Keep an eye on stamina on long descents (see the Rope Gun page).
- Take lines down you no longer use: the rope comes back to the gun.
Step 5: Use the ready-made ziplines
The client places 4 zipline anchors, two per line, so 2 ready-made ziplines, in the client's Cave B and Cave C scenes. Which named cave each is, is not in our data; GameRant describes one in a cave. Use them to learn how a line rides, then take one down with E near its top, as players describe (GameRant).
Pro tip
Ride a cave line once before you place your own.
Step 6: Plan the line
Your lines are yours to place. The crafting page calls tree structures good zipline stops, so a tree platform is a place to land.
What the files do not say
Maximum length, speed and slope of a zipline are not in the data we hold. Players ask how far lines go; we cannot answer from the files, and we do not guess.
Common mistakes
- Firing without a rope. The gun uses Zipline Rope as ammo.
- Forgetting to take the line back. Right-click the second grapple to get the rope.
- Skipping the cave line. It is a free lesson.
- Expecting a distance number. None is in the files.
