Sons of the Forest has two companions — Kelvin, the tireless helper you meet in the crash, and Virginia, the shy three-armed mutant you can befriend into a deadly ally. Here's how to get each, what they do, and how to keep them alive.

Kelvin

Your loyal, tireless helper from the crash.

Can die

Kelvin is a fellow passenger from the opening helicopter crash. The impact left him deaf and unable to speak, so he takes every order from a notebook. He's with you from the very start and works for free, day and night — the backbone of any base.

How to get Kelvin

No recruiting needed — Kelvin survives the intro crash and joins you automatically at the start of the game.

What Kelvin does

  • ▸Chops down trees and gathers logs, sticks, rocks and leaves
  • ▸Fishes and collects water in a flask
  • ▸Builds and repairs the structures you mark
  • ▸Fills log holders, rock holders and fires
  • ▸Works around the clock without tiring, eating or sleeping

Tips

  • ·Assign tasks from his notebook — point him at a tree, a fishing spot or a structure and he gets to work.
  • ·Keep him out of fights; enemies and big falls can kill him for good.
  • ·In single-player he doesn't respawn — if he dies, the only way back is the console command addcharacter robby.

A shy three-armed mutant who becomes a deadly ally.

Can die

Virginia is a three-legged, three-armed mutant — the daughter of the Puffton family you're sent to find. She isn't hostile, just skittish. Earn her trust and she becomes one of the strongest allies in the game, able to wield two guns at once.

How to get Virginia

Befriend her — don't fight her. When you spot her, holster your weapons, stand still and let her approach. Never hurting her, and leaving gifts, raises her sentiment until she joins your camp.
