How to Open the Golden Door in Sons of the Forest
The golden door, deep in the Luxury Bunker, opens only when you carry or wear the Ancient Armor after plating it with 12 Solafite Ore in a Gold Armor Plater, whose blueprint lies beside the door. No keycard opens the door itself.

The route, step by step
Numbers on the map match the steps. Tick each step off as you go; the ticks stay in your browser. Step 1 does not depend on steps 2-5, so take the Ancient Armor whenever you are near Cave D.

Take the Ancient Armor in Cave DCave D
It is the one Ancient Armor pickup in the game, on a posed skeleton deep in Cave D (x 186, y -669). The cave's entrances are on the caves map; the armor page has what the armor does.Open the armor's pin

Use the PC in the Residential Bunker's security roomResidential

Go through the Luxury Bunker to the door; take the plater blueprintLuxury
Enter the Luxury Bunker at the Final Bunker pin. The golden door is 167 m further in (straight line) and 19 m lower than the entrance door, about 87 m under the ground. The Gold Armor Plater blueprint lies 2.1 m from the door: pick it up, it unlocks the plater.Open the door's pin

What the door checks
The door is a scene object of the Luxury Bunker (its save id is LuxuryBunker.HellDoorCaveEntrance). Three things in the files decide whether it opens, and none of them is a keycard.
| Check | What the files say |
|---|---|
| The item | Item 572, the Ancient Armor (loc key GOLDEN_ARMOUR). The door's "Open" prompt is set to need it. |
| Carried or worn | Both count: the door's code looks in your inventory first, then at the clothing you wear, and the prompt is flagged "item can be worn". |
| Plated | Owning it is not enough. The code then checks that the armor is plated, and only a plated one opens the door. |
Unplated armor
With an unplated Ancient Armor the door runs its fail branch. Timmy, who waits at the door, has lines filed as the door's "no" and "yes" in the subtitles: "No, we're missing something." and "It's working!"
"Golden door" is the game's name too
The game's warning for early-access saves says: "The Gold door and all hell cave progress has been reset". In the scene the door is the Hell Cave's entrance.
Plating the Ancient Armor
The Gold Armor Plater is a buildable you unlock with its blueprint, the one lying beside the golden door; it is not unlocked at the start. Its 12 ore slots hold Solafite Ore, and it plates only the Ancient Armor.
The world places exactly 12 Solafite Ore pickups, the 12 the plater needs. The caves also hold Solafite rock (objects named SolafiteResource: 290 in Cave D, 189 past the golden door); the files we read do not say what breaks it, so the pickaxe page is the place to check.

Keycards on the way, and why not the VIP Keycard
Every security door in the bunker scenes names the keycard it takes. The two on this route: the Entertainment Bunker's entrance takes the Maintenance Keycard, the Residential Bunker's doors take the Guest Keycard. There is a second Guest Keycard inside the Residential Bunker itself (x 1141, y -613), but it does not get you in.
The Luxury Bunker's entrance door names the VIP Keycard, but nothing at that door uses it: its trigger has no use point wired, its working card reader is switched off and a reader named CardReaderBroken is switched on. The same door state is set by the Residential Bunker's PC. The VIP Keycard (x -978, y 1039) opens the Food & Dining Bunker's dining door.

| Entertainment Bunker | computer room door | Guest Keycard |

Where the golden door is
The door stands at x 1597, y 485 on the map, in the Luxury Bunker's scene: 167 m from the bunker's entrance door (x 1749, y 554) in a straight line and 19 m lower, about 87 m under the terrain. The map's Hell Cave Entrance pin is the same spot. The files hold the two ends, not the tunnel between them, so the distance is a straight line, not the walk.

What the files do not tell us
We only print what the files hold. These are the gaps:
- The way through each bunker and from the Luxury entrance to the door: the files give positions, not corridors, so distances here are straight lines.
- Whether the Entertainment Bunker's Guest Keycard lies behind its Maintenance-keyed door or before it.
- What tool breaks the Solafite rock in the caves.
- Whether the door takes the Ancient Armor from you or lets you keep it; we did not find that in the door's code.
FAQ
How do you open the golden door in Sons of the Forest?
Bring the Ancient Armor, plated with 12 Solafite Ore in a Gold Armor Plater, to the door, in your inventory or worn. The game checks for that item and that it is plated; nothing else opens the door.
Where is the golden door?
Deep in the Luxury Bunker, at x 1597, y 485 on the map (the Hell Cave Entrance pin): 167 m in from the bunker's entrance door in a straight line and 19 m lower.
Do you need a keycard for the golden door?
Not for the door itself. To reach it you need the Maintenance Keycard (opens the Entertainment Bunker, where the Guest Keycard is) and the Guest Keycard (opens the Residential Bunker, whose security-room PC unlocks the Luxury Bunker). The VIP Keycard is not on this route.
Do I have to wear the Ancient Armor?
No. The door's code accepts the armor in your inventory or worn; it must be plated either way.
Why won't the golden door open?
Most likely the Ancient Armor is not plated: owning it is not enough. Plate it in the Gold Armor Plater with 12 Solafite Ore; the plater's blueprint lies 2.1 m from the door.
How much Solafite Ore do you need?
12. The plater has 12 ore slots, and the world places exactly 12 Solafite Ore pickups.
