Sons of the Forest endings
All three endings — the good, the bad and the secret one — and exactly what to do to get each, including how to save Kelvin and Virginia.
Spoiler warning. This page reveals how Sons of the Forest ends, including the secret ending. Turn back now if you want to reach the finale unspoiled.
How to reach the ending
To trigger any ending you first need the Maintenance keycard and the VIP keycard, then head to the final bunker south of the abandoned village. That starts the endgame sequence — the helicopter, the backpack, and the choice that decides which ending you get. Grab both keycards from our key-item locations and scout the route on the interactive map.
All 3 endings explained
Bad ending
Stay and fight
How to get it
At the final sequence, grab the backpack sitting further from the helicopter. Taking it makes the helicopter leave without you — so you stay behind on the island.
What happens
You're left on the island to keep fighting the demons. It earns the "Fight Demons" achievement.
Good ending
Leave on the helicopter
How to get it
Ignore the backpack and climb aboard the helicopter instead. If you'd already chosen to stay, you can summon the helicopter back any time from the radio in the VIP bunker.
What happens
You escape the island by air. It earns the "Fought Demons" achievement — the standard good ending.
Secret ending
Leave with your friends
How to get it
Recruit Virginia as a companion AND keep Kelvin alive for the whole playthrough, then board the helicopter. Both of them climb aboard with you.
What happens
In the epilogue, Virginia has surgery to remove her mutation; five months later she's without her third leg and pregnant, and the three of you drive down a highway together like a family. It earns the "Keep Your Friends Close" achievement.
Chasing the secret ending? Our companions guide covers how to recruit Virginia and keep Kelvin alive.
