Best Enshrouded Mage Build — Fire Mage Starter

Updated 2026-06-212 min read

The Fire Mage is the cleanest entry point into Mage in Enshrouded — high AoE damage from the first Flame Level, two layers of survivability (HEALER + COUNTERSTRIKE), and zero reliance on the late-game spells. With 50 Mage skills to pick from, the picks below are the ones that compose into a working solo loop.

The build

Open in planner — eight picks, ~16 skill points. Targets the level 10-25 / Flame 3-5 window.

Why these skills

Attributes first. Intelligence drives spell damage; Spirit deepens the mana pool so you're not chugging potions every fight. 1 point each — cheap insurance.

Arsonist is the Fire Mage signature — unlocks the damage multiplier that scales every fire spell off your INT pool.

Fire Resistance + Ice Resistance read like wasted picks until you reach Albaneve Summits. Endgame fights stack elemental damage; opening them with double-resistance halves the chip you take while channelling.

Healer + Sun Aura is the standalone-survival pair. Sun Aura tops up the party (including pets and other players in co-op) and Healer takes a bigger slice of overflow. You can solo Springlands and Revelwood without potions on this combo.

Counterstrike is the universal panic button. When something closes to melee, you still get a 1-shot escape window. Every archetype benefits from it; don't skip on Mage just because you're "supposed to" stay ranged.

Weapon pairing

Fire Wands from the Wands catalog are the obvious primary. Pair with a Staff or a Bow in the offhand — Bow gives a stamina-free panic shot, Staff doubles down on AoE if you have the mana for it.

Don't slot a Greatsword as backup — INT builds don't scale STR weapons. A short Sword or Dagger covers the same melee panic role at no scaling penalty.

Progression to Ice Mage / Necromancer

The Fire Mage template is the on-ramp. Once you hit level 30, two endgame pivots open up: Ice Mage Crowd Control (better solo) and Necromancer Glass Cannon (highest co-op DPS).

Both keep the INT + Spirit attribute spine — only the spell selection changes. Respec costs ~3 scrolls, all craftable.

When NOT to pick Fire Mage

Fire damage is Resisted on some Albaneve Summits enemies (notably the Cyclops is the opposite — Effective there). Audit the boss resistance chart before committing the loadout for a specific kill.

If your group needs a tank, Sword & Board Tank is the safer pick and it scales off STR/CON instead of INT.

FAQ

What level should I pick the Fire Mage build?

Start the picks at level 10 (Flame Level 3). The full ladder including Sun Aura unlocks around level 20-25.

Is Fire Mage good for solo play?

Yes — Healer + Sun Aura covers the survival gap. The fire damage struggles against fire-resistant fauna but compensates with AoE coverage on packs.

Should I use a Wand or a Staff?

Wand as primary, Staff as backup. Wands fire faster and have a tighter mana profile; Staves are AoE-heavy but punishing on mana.

How does Fire Mage compare to Ranger Sniper?

Sniper is single-target precision; Fire Mage is sustained AoE. Sniper wins boss DPS; Mage wins Shroud-cave clearing and co-op support.
