Linen Thread is 5 Flax Stalk for 1 thread, made at the Spinning Wheel in the Sewing Hut in 5 seconds. Flax Stalk comes from Flax threshed in the Barn, and Flax is sown in spring only.

Linen Thread is the item that gates cloth, shirts and the Fishing Spear. This is the chain from the seed to the Spinning Wheel.

Step 1: Sow Flax in spring

The seed file lists Flax as sowable in spring and in no other season (summer, autumn and winter are all off). Each season lasts 3 days by default, so the window is short. The farming page has the crop's stages. The tutorial's field recipe is: grub up the field with a Hoe (once), sprinkle Fertiliser from a Bag, plough with the Hoe, sow, harvest. Step 2: Thresh Flax into Flax Stalk

Flax Stalk: "Crafted from Flax on the Threshing Floor in the Barn. Can be used for creating Linen Thread on the Spinning Wheel in the Sewing Hut." The Threshing Floor recipe is 2 Flax for 1 Flax Seed and 2 Flax Stalk, 1 second, 0.4 Farming experience. That is 1 stalk per Flax. The Barn costs 64 Stick, 27 Log, 12 Stone, 48 Straw and needs Farming technology level 10.

Step 3: Spin the thread

The Sewing Hut I costs 24 Stick, 17 Log, 8 Stone, 40 Straw and has "the Spinning Wheel, the Loom and the Tailoring Table inside". The Linen Thread recipe is 5 Flax Stalk for 1 thread in 5 seconds, 2.6 Crafting experience, Crafting technology level 100, cost 50. A Seamster working there produces 0.402 an hour in the files.

Step 4: Or just buy it

Linen Thread has a base price of 40 coins and is listed with Seamster and Stallholder Resources vendors. Flax Stalk is a base 5 coins each, so five stalks are 25. If you only need a thread or two for a Fishing Spear, buying costs coins but saves you the wait for the next spring.

Common mistakes

  • Missing the spring window. Flax is sown in spring only, and a season is 3 days.
  • Building the Sewing Hut before the technology. It needs Crafting technology level 100.
  • Counting seeds as stalks. 2 Flax give 1 Flax Seed and 2 Flax Stalk; only the stalks make thread. (Flax itself has a base price of 7.)
