Fishing Spear in Medieval Dynasty: How to Craft It
A Fishing Spear is 2 Stone, 2 Log, 1 Linen Thread, and one craft gives 2 spears in 5 seconds at the Workbench in the Smithy. The snag is the Linen Thread: you make it in a Sewing Hut or buy it from a Seamster.
- Recipe3 inputs2 Stone, 2 Log, 1 Linen Thread
- One craft makes25 seconds
- Bought for50coins, base price
- Tool cost0.3per Fish Meat catch
The Fishing Spear is a three-ingredient recipe, and one of the three, the Linen Thread, comes from a different building. These steps take you from the materials to the first fish.

The 5 steps at a glance
Numbers are from the game files (version 2.5.0.2); Steam's build is newer.

Collect Stone and Logs
2 Stone and 2 Logs.

Go to a Smithy workbench
Smithy I
Craft
2 Fishing Spear in 5 seconds.
Fish
Spear in hand, at the water.
Step 1: Collect Stone and Logs
Stone: "Mined from Rocks found in the wilderness and Stone Deposits found in caves using a Pickaxe. Can be used for crafting various items and for building structures." Log: "Obtained by cutting down trees and chopping them. Can be used for crafting various items and for building structures." Both are cheap (base price 0.4 and 1 coin). Four of each is enough for two crafts.
Step 2: Get the Linen Thread
Linen Thread is the ingredient that costs you time: "Crafted from Flax Stalk on the Spinning Wheel in the Sewing Hut. Can be used for crafting Linen Fabric on the Loom in the Sewing Hut." The Linen Thread guide has the whole chain. If you only need one thread, Seamster and Stallholder Resources vendors list it at a base price of 40 coins.
Step 3: Stand at a Smithy workbench
The item's text reads "A type of tool. Crafted at the Workbench in the Smithy. Can be used for fishing.". The Smithy I costs 22 Stick, 15 Log, 8 Stone, 32 Straw and needs Crafting technology level 50; the game says it "Has the Workbench, the Forge and the Anvil inside".
Step 4: Craft it
Open the Fishing Spear recipe: 2 Stone, 2 Log, 1 Linen Thread makes 2 Fishing Spear, 5 seconds, 2.5 Crafting experience. The file stores no technology cost for it and the recipe is not locked, so it is open from the start.
Step 5: Fish
The game's tutorial says: "Catching fish is another viable option for obtaining food. It can be done manually using the Fishing Spear or by setting fishing nets for small, medium and large fish. Fish can be dressed in the kitchen or roasted by the fireplace. The bigger the fish, the more Fish Meat it provides."
In the recipe file, plain Fish Meat has a tool cost of 0.3, and each named fish has Roach 1, Perch 1, Pike 1. The files do not state the rule behind those numbers, so I cannot tell you how many catches one spear lasts; a craft gives two spears, which is a sensible stock. The named fish are cooking recipes that give 1.9, 3.1, 5.4 Survival experience.
If you do not want to craft it
Fishing Spear has a base price of 50 coins and the files list Blacksmith, Fisherman and Stallholder Tools vendors as sellers. A Fishing Hut worker (the Fishing Hut I, Survival technology level 500) brings in Fish Meat once the hut stands.
Common mistakes
- Crafting without the thread. The thread needs flax, which is sown in spring; plan a season ahead or buy it.
- Crafting one at a time. A craft gives 2 spears; do not make a third batch before you need it.
- Looking for a combat use. The spear's damage is 0.05 in the files; it is a fishing tool.
