Fertilizer in Medieval Dynasty: How to Make It

Game files, version 2.5.0.23 min read

Fertiliser (the game's spelling) is 2 Manure or 10 Rot for 1, made at the Workbench in the Barn in 1 second. You spread it on a field from a Bag before you plough.

Fertiliser is made, not grown. These are the two recipes, the sources of Manure and the order on the field.

The 4 steps at a glance

Numbers are from the game files (version 2.5.0.2); Steam's build is newer.

  1. Collect Manure

Pigsty worker, or by hand at any animal building.
  2. Or collect Rot

    10 Rot per Fertiliser.
  3. Craft at the Barn workbench

    2 Manure gives 1 Fertiliser.
  4. Spread it on the field

    From a Bag, before ploughing.

Step 1: Collect Manure

Manure: "Produced at the Pigsty or collected manually from other animal husbandry buildings. Can be used for crafting Fertiliser at the Workbench in the Barn." The tutorial adds that "Pigsty workers can be assigned to collect Manure and deliver it to the Resource Storage. Manure from other animal buildings needs to be collected manually by a player." The production files store these Manure rates:

BuildingManure an hour
Pigsty0.554
Cowshed0.43
Horse stable2
Donkey stable2.05
Fold0.1

The Manure recipe

There is also a "Manure" recipe with no ingredients that takes 3 seconds and gives 1; I read that as picking it up by hand.

Step 2: Or collect Rot

Rot: "Created by food rotting over time. Can be used for crafting Fertiliser at the Workbench in the Barn." It has a poison value of 0.5 in the files, and the tutorial warns not to force people to eat it. 10 Rot make 1 Fertiliser, so Rot is the fallback for a store of spoiled food, not a plan.

Step 3: Craft it at the Barn

Both recipes are crafted at the Workbench in the Barn ("Crafted from Manure or Rot at the Workbench in the Barn. Can be used for fertilising the fields using a Bag."). The Barn I costs 64 Stick, 27 Log, 12 Stone, 48 Straw and needs Farming technology level 10. Both recipes are 1 second with 0.4 Farming experience and no technology cost. A Barn worker produces 0.924 an hour of either in the production file.

Step 4: Spread it on the field

The tutorial's field steps are: "1. Grub up the field with a Hoe. This only has to be done once, with every new field. 2. Sprinkle Fertiliser with the help of a Bag on the field. 3. Plough the soil using a Hoe. 4. Sow a desired seed selected from the Select Seed menu. 5. Harvest fully grown crops." A field is at most 16x16 tiles. You can also buy it: Farmer and Stallholder Resources vendors list it at a base price of 4 coins. The farming page has the crops and their seasons.

Common mistakes

  • Ploughing first. The tutorial puts Fertiliser before the ploughing step.
  • Waiting for the Pigsty to cover everything. Only Pigsty workers collect Manure on their own; every other animal building needs you.
  • Rot for everything. It takes 10 Rot against 2 Manure.
