Animal Feed in Medieval Dynasty: How to Make It

Game files, version 2.5.0.23 min read

Animal Feed is 1 Oat Grain, 1 Rye Grain, 5 Straw for 1 feed, made at the Workbench in the Barn in 2 seconds. Straw is the bottleneck: threshing 7 Oat and 7 Rye gives 14 Straw, enough for 2 feed.

Your livestock produce only after they are fed, and the feed recipe uses a lot of Straw. This is the chain and the numbers.

The 4 steps at a glance

Numbers are from the game files (version 2.5.0.2); Steam's build is newer.

  1. Grow Oat and Rye

Cereals need a Sickle or Scythe to harvest.
    Farming page
  2. Thresh them in the Barn

Each batch of 7 also gives 7 Straw.
  3. Craft the feed

1 Oat Grain, 1 Rye Grain, 5 Straw gives 1 Animal Feed.
  4. Put it in the animal building

Animals produce only after they are fed.

Step 1: Grow Oat and Rye

Both are cereals on the farming page. The tutorial says cereals need a Sickle or a Scythe; vegetables can be picked by hand. The seed file lists the sowing seasons per crop. Each season lasts 3 days by default, so sow early in its window.

Step 2: Thresh in the Barn

The Threshing Floor turns 7 Oat into 14 Oat Grain and 7 Straw in 1 second, and 7 Rye into 14 Rye Grain and 7 Straw. The grain stacks up faster than the Straw: from one Oat batch and one Rye batch you hold 14 Oat Grain, 14 Rye Grain and 14 Straw, and the feed needs 5 Straw per pair.

Step 3: Craft the feed

Animal Feed: "Crafted at the Workbench in the Barn. Can be used for feeding animals." The recipe is 1 Oat Grain, 1 Rye Grain, 5 Straw, 2 seconds, 1.1 Farming experience, Farming technology level 50, cost 50. A Barn worker produces 0.335 an hour in the production file; the Barn I costs 64 Stick, 27 Log, 12 Stone, 48 Straw.

Step 4: Put it where the animals are

The tutorial: "Animals will provide various resources, like eggs, milk, or wool. But it will happen only after they are properly fed. The Animal Feed must be placed in the buildings where specific livestock are housed." Most of those buildings also make Manure, which is the base of Fertiliser.

If you would rather buy it

Animal Feed has a base price of 16 coins. The files list Animal Breeder vendors (cowshed, fold, pigsty, poultry and stable), Farmer and Stallholder Resources vendors as sellers.

Common mistakes

  • Growing grain for feed and ignoring Straw. The grain piles up while the Straw runs out.
  • Leaving the feed in storage. The tutorial says it has to be placed in the buildings where the livestock live.
  • Crafting before the technology. The recipe stores Farming technology level 50, cost 50.
