Each holds one in their inventory; per the wiki, taking it out kills them. Cleanser Units are rare wanderers in the Ashlands.

Buying them
The Scraphouse is the one place the wiki names as selling AI Cores, at about c.25,000 each. Its cores do not respawn once bought or stolen, per the wiki.

The AI Core is illegal in Holy Nation towns, as are Ancient Science Books. Stash them before you walk in.
