Best Base Locations in Subnautica 2: Ranked Regions

Game files, build 0.10.03 min read

By the pins in the files, Coral Gardens: Tufa Towers is the best-supplied region (4 of 4 base materials, 1 hazard pins, middle depth 70 m). 3 of 12 regions hold all four materials; the shallowest of them is Coral Gardens: Tufa Towers at 70 m. The files do not say where the builder will accept a base, so check the spot in game.

I cannot play-test where a base fits, so this page ranks the named regions by what the files can prove: how much of the first base's materials the region has and how many hazards its pins show. It is a short list to check in game.

The six best-ranked regions on the map

The numbers follow the table: base materials first, then fewer hazard pins, then the shallower middle depth. A pin is the centre of the region's pins.

The best regions for a first base

The top 6 of 12 named regions by the formula. Check the spot in game: the files do not say where the builder accepts a base.

The other 6 regions are in the table under All data.

What to know

  • The ranking is open. Materials with 10+ pins first, then fewer heat vent, blight and current pins, then the shallower middle depth.
  • Depth is the middle of the material pins. It ignores caves and cliffs, so it says where the stuff is, not how deep the base would sit.
  • This is build 0.10.0. Data from the game files, build 0.10.0 (May 2026); later patches may differ.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the table as a safe list. Creatures are not in the ranking.
  • Reading a missing material as "none there". It means fewer than 10 pins in the region.
  • Building far from the materials. Every missing one is a trip.

The 4 steps at a glance

  1. Read the four materials.
  2. Compare the regions.
  3. Check the hazards.
  4. Take the shortlist to the game.

Step 1: Read the four materials

The first Habitat Builder pieces take titanium and a few more raw materials: the Fabricator needs 1 Titanium, 1 Copper, 1 Quartz, a Solar Panel 1 Titanium, 2 Quartz and a Hatch 1 Titanium, 1 Quartz. Salt is on the list for power storage. A region counts a material when it has at least 10 pins of it. The layers: Titanium, Quartz, Copper, Salt.

Step 2: Compare the regions

The order is the formula above. "Middle depth" is the middle of the base-material pins in metres below sea level.

Step 3: Check the hazards

Three pin layers mark danger: heat vents, fissures and blight and water currents. Coral Gardens: South Raceway has none. Creatures are not counted: the creature data is not built into the site yet.

Step 4: Take the shortlist to the game

Walk the region with the Habitat Builder in hand. The files hold no placement rules, so a region that ranks well here can still have no flat spot.

About these numbers

Pins are baked world-population actors in build 0.10.0; the files do not say whether the live game spawns more at run time. Data from the game files, build 0.10.0 (May 2026); later patches may differ. Pins that sit outside the named regions are left out of the table.
