Aluminum Location in The Planet Crafter (Map)

Game files, build 2.008

Aluminum has 852 pins in the game files, on 4 planets. Prime has the most (265, 31 %). Next is Selenea with 262.

The map opens on Prime, where most of the pins are (265). Other planets with Aluminum: Selenea (262), Humble (205), Toxicity (120).

Aluminum by planet

852 Aluminum pins in all, on 4 of the 5 planets. Aqualis has none. Each link opens that planet's map with only this layer switched on.

Which part of each planet

The game files give coordinates but no biome or area names for ore, so I cut each planet's map picture into nine equal parts (north-west to south-east, north at the top) and counted the pins in each. The parts are my grid, not names from the game. The last column is the middle of the pins in a planet's busiest part, in the world units the map popups show.

The picture is lopsided: Prime's busiest part (centre) holds 160 of its 265 pins, and Selenea's busiest part (west) holds 132 of 262.

How to get Aluminum

Every Aluminum pin in the files reads "Mining speed x1.0", the same as every other ore pin, so no pin is slower or faster to mine than another. Go to a pin and mine it. 19 of the 852 pins are marked as spawn points instead: 19 on Humble read "spawns here with 50 % chance". I read that as a pin which may be empty in a given save, so count on the others first.

The ore extractor is the other way in: the game's text for the T2 Ore Extractor reads "Extracts rarer ores from the ground", and the T1 reads "Extracts ores from the ground depending on where it's placed". The files do not list which ore each tier gives; the ore extractor guide has what they do state.

The map also has a separate Veins layer with 2 "Aluminum vein" pins (Prime 1, Toxicity 1): Aluminum vein layer. The files do not say how a vein differs from an ore pin, so I keep the two apart.

What Aluminum is used for

42 recipes in the files list Aluminum as an ingredient: 16 items and 26 buildings. The first ones are below; the rest are folded. Amounts are per craft as the files store them. Add any of them to the crafting calculator to see how much ore a build takes.

Common mistakes

  • Looking on Aqualis. The files place no Aluminum there.
  • Trusting a part name from a video. My nine parts are a grid over the map picture, not the game's own areas; use the map pins, which are exact.
  • Expecting new planets. These files are build 2.008 and the Skeo planet is not in them, so Aluminum pins there are missing.
